What's in a name?
01/08/2013 20:21One of the things the experts tell us is - never change your pen name. If you do not want to use your real name, then pick something when you first start out and stick to it. Well, it turns out I am never one to listen to the experts, so I have done exactly that. Changed my pen name.
When I first began writing, you knew me as Kayla Scanlon. Arguably a nice name in itself, but I have been disillusioned with it for quite some time. So I made the momentous decision to change it. Why, you ask? Well, I just felt it wasn't quite me. My new pen name is now Kristina Barrett. Kristina is actually my middle name, so I should have no problem answering to it if the need arises. As for Barrett, it is the surname of one of my very best friends in the world. Growing up, I always wanted to be a member of her family, so I guess using her surname as my pen name is the next best thing. An honourary Barrett if you will.
Once I decided to change it though was only the beginning of my problems. I had not anticipated buying a new domain name, a whole website redesign, changing my book cover art to reflect the new name, and not to mention changing my twitter and facebook accounts. But not to worry, there is now a light at the end of the tunnel. I have almost obliterated evidence that Kayla Scanlon Author ever existed and have replaced it with Kristina Barrett. However, if you find any Kayla Scanlon left, please let me know and I shall try to erase her forever.
Best wishes until next time,
Kristina.
